Acting Rig Manager - Byford Dolphin Drilling Rig

Responsibilities included:

• Responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of the drilling rig in accordance with company policies and operator requirements as stated in their contract.
• Responsible for the implementation, cooperation/participation of crews and the overall effectiveness of the company competence assurance program (DD-CAMS) on their assigned vessel.
• Supervise all activities related to the unit, co-ordinate and supply support to the rig as required by operational needs/operator requests.
• Co-ordinate all activities and support the unit with advice, personnel, equipment and services.
• Assist with the evaluation of personnel prior to employment and review performance of employees on a regular basis.
• Participate in the preparation of the annual budgets for the rig and ensure that operating expenses are kept in line with approved budgets.
• Control operating income.
• Develop and maintain a good working relationship with the operator’s representatives onshore, offshore management and sub-contractors.
• Ensure that adequate levels of inventory are maintained.
• Ensure that the units equipment is maintained in compliance with company maintenance system Tag.
• Review all operational and technical reports to and from the rig and ensure their distribution to the relevant functions.
• Responsible for ensuring that unit documentation is maintained up-to-date e.g. Safety Case, Operations Manual, Verification Scheme, Equipment List.

Rig Manager - Borgholm Dolphin Accommodation Rig
  • Rig Manager for Borgholm Dolphin accommodation rig in operation in the UK sector, responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Rig. 
  • Developed an internal upgraded plan to improve provision of facilities for Client. 
  • On completion of the contracted period I co-ordinated an intermediate class survey including “in water hull survey” mooring chain inspection, remedial repairs to critical connections and upgrade to the ballast control system 
  • Assisted the company Human Resource department to co-ordinate and attend meetings related to the crew consultation process prior to the Rig being cold stacked. 
  • Prepared the Rig for “Cold Stacking” 

 

Vessel Manager - PROSAFE OFFSHORE LIMITED
  • Co-ordinated all relevant inspections of the vessel whilst on bareboat charter in Mexico prior to vessel’s return to Prosafe Offshore management and contracted operations in the UK sector 
  • Co-ordinated the transfer of semi-submersible vessel Safe Bristolia from a bareboat charter in Mexico, including the safe loading and discharge to and from Heavy Lift vessel “Hawk” 
  • Co-ordinated the reintroduction of Safe Bristolia into UK North Sea ensuring compliance with required legislation including UK HSE inspections 
  • Co-ordinated a thirty-day vessel upgrade project including Gangway height increase, overhaul of all mooring winches, intermediate survey, galley upgrade, main engine(s) overhaul prior to the vessel going on contract. I was the focal point for the Client pre-contract acceptance inspections. 
  • I was involved in the recruitment process for two replacement crews, responsible for the ensuring the crew were competent, trained, supervised and worked effectively as a team 
  • Assisted assigned Naval Architect commissioned to undertake a stability study, aspects included an inclination test, stability review, wind and wave study undertaken by Strathclyde University. 
  • Managed the Safe Bristolia accommodation rig in operation in the UK sector, responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Rig. 
  • Co-ordinated a down-man of all client personnel assigned to the operation on the vessel because of severe weather damage. 
  • Co-ordinated onshore response to a major incident as a result of a towing failure. This included evacuation of all non-essential personnel by Norwegian Search and Rescue Service, ongoing support and care of evacuated personnel and the eventual safe mooring of the vessel. 
  • Co -ordinated damage assessments onboard vessel, inspections by Underwriters and Class. 
  • Delivered findings of marine incident to regulatory authorities.
HSEQ Advisor - Regalia

Responsibilities for the Regalia, a DP accommodation vessel, included: 

 

  • Ensuring compliance with Norwegian legislation. 
  • Assisted with accident investigations. 
  • Monitored the Safety Observation system submissions, identifying trends and areas of focus. 
  • Compiled monthly safety statistics for the Director of HSE. 
  • Reviewed and provided input into the client combined operations documentation on HSE matters. 
  • Provided advice to the Safety Officers on all aspects of safety. 

 

Vessel Manager - Safe Esbjerg

Responsibilities for the Safe Esbjerg, a three leg self-elevating cantilever type accommodation platform, during the upgrade from 79 to 89 MODU Code, and the eventual sale of the Jack Up, included: 

 

  • Project managed MODU upgrade. 
  • Worked closely with Class and approved inspectors ensuring approval was gained in a timely and cost-effective manner. 
  • Crane upgrades, removal and reinstatement of jibs to allow local steel replacement, boom section replacement, engineered solutions/modification to crane pedestals and steel replacement. 
  • Replacement structural steel in legs, hull and tanks. 
  • Removal of redundant engine. 
  • Increase of Lifeboat capacity and associated LSA. 

 

  • Managing the CAPEX budget. 
  • Managing crewing levels. 
  • Identification and selection of local vendors to support vessels activities. 
  • Interaction with prospective buyers and client. 
  • Prepared the vessel for to Danish compliance standard for new buyer’s contract. 

 

HSEQ Advisor - Safe Esbjerg
  • Performed a gap analysis against Prosafe Offshore’s procedures for semi-submersible vessels and jack-up operations and safe manning levels. 
  • Assisted with accident investigations. 
  • Monitored the Safety Observation system submissions, identifying trends and areas of focus. 
  • Compiled monthly safety statistics for the Director of HSE. 
  • Provided advice to the Safety Officers on all aspects of safety. 
Project Lead - Engica Q4 electronic PTW system

 

Led the successful development and introduction of an electronic Permit to Work system, Engica Q4 Safety Management System. Worked closely with Engica in developing a risk assessment tool (Hazard Tree Editor) which formed part of the PTW system. I was responsible for identifying and hardware required for the installation of the new electronic PTW system. Consulted and trained employees for three vessels in the use of the system post development.
